King Penguins, South Georgia, Sub Antarctic Island - Image: ANT6899P3L
Title: A day in an extradinary life
Location: Gold Harbour, South Georgia, near Antarctica
Code: ANT6899P3L
Portfolio Type: Limited Edition Fine Art Portfolio
This shot was taken at Gold Harbour on South Georgia, a sub Antarctic island. These beautiful King Penguins were among thousands just sunning themselves. In this shot I’m using a wide angle lens telling the story of life on the beach for a King Penguin. The Fur seals are not a problem for the King penguins, they co exist quite happily. You’ve also got some Elephant seals sunning themselves, they are called Beach Masters as they own the beach and you better get out of the way when they’re on the move . The brown penguins are the juvenile King penguins, they will molt very soon and turn into the sleek looking adults. You can see some of the adult King penguins about to head out to sea to catch food for the juveniles. There are steep cliffs all around this beach, notice in the background up on the cliff face, that’s a glacier, can you imagine the sound when a piece of ice breaks away and crashes down below. Definitely not the place for a penguin to set up camp.
